Frema's Big Fat Moving Day

Let me first say, that if you can afford to have other people move your stuff, go that route 100 percent of the time. They'll do everything, from packing to heavy lifting to unpacking. Luckily, Frema's new Indianapolis employer is paying for relocation expenses, but on her own she would've had to shell out $100 an hour for each mover relocating her stuff around.

If you were to judge from the two guys who came to move Frema, you'd think that movers come in two sizes, extra-large and small. The first guy was what you'd think a mover should be, a big, bulky guy, while the other was maybe 5-foot-2 at the tallest and scrawny. But he could move him some boxes, let me tell you. The big guy would scoot stuff around on a handcart, but the little guy would hoist up several bins and boxes, strap them to his back, and zip out to the truck.

After we all met again at Frema's new apartment, unloading didn't even take an hour. They just put all the stuff where she wanted it and left. They would've helped out more, but it's really easier to do your own organizing in a new pad. While that can still be some work, we had to mess with none of the heavy lifting whatsoever. I tell you, it's weird to sit there and watch it happen because you feel like you want to help, but you shouldn't since they're getting paid to do all that work so you don't have to.

Taking breaks from setting up the place, Frema and I spent much of the weekend exploring her new locale. I don't think I've seen as many Applebee's restaurants in my entire life as I did in one weekend driving around the north side of Indianapolis. They even seem to outnumber the amount of Starbucks in the area, a feat I previously thought unthinkable.

Now, I am back in Rensselaer, all alone. Even though I knew I had to leave her behind as I was driving back last night, it wasn't until I hit the city limits that I realized Frema isn't going to be just a few blocks away anymore. It's really odd to drive passed her old apartment and know that she is not upstairs anymore in good old Apt. C. It's been a long time since we had to have any distance between us, so it going to be a big adjustment to get used to, but we can work it out. In the meantime, I am trying to make my own way down to Indy. Actually, I have an job interview lined up already at University of Indianapolis, but it is not until May 26. It can be hard to tell how long a hiring process will take, so it could still be some time until I know whether or not I have that job. Until then, I suppose that I should be getting fired up with school spirit for my potential employer, so go Greyhounds!

One good interview question that I have heard several times is: "What do you find out about us in getting ready for this interview?"

I did not look for anything on the web or nothing, is not a good get the job answer.
