They Look Fine...
Sometime last week our downstairs neighbor moved out. But as he was packing up to relocate, he bequeathed his stock of frozen personal-sized pizzas to Frema and me. I had returned home from work and was checking the mail out in the hallway when he came out and asked if I wanted a stack of sausage and pepperoni pies, as he was just going to throw them away if I didn't want them. We had never gotten to know him, though he lived right below our apartment, but I thought that was a nice thing to do, thanking him and wishing him well. He could've just tossed them and not bothered to see if anyone wanted them. When Frema got home, I told her off the encounter and showed her our new stash of pizza.
"Yeah, that was nice of him, but is it safe to eat them?" she asked in response.
"Sure, no one's going to give out poisoned frozen pizzas. They're fine," I replied with confidence.
However, when I came home for lunch the next day and thought about heating one of them up, I couldn't help but hear Frema saying in my head Is it safe? and consequently returned the pizza to the freezer. I did that twice actually, though I don't seriously think that the pizzas are tainted in any way. Now, Frema has been threatening to throw them away; they do take up quite a bit of space in the icebox. Still, FREE PIZZA! You can't throw away free pizza. It's weird, though, if we had bought the pizzas ourselves and decide there might be something wrong with them, we'd have little problem throwing them in the dumpster. But since they were given to us, they are somehow more valuable. Thus, I decided to have one for lunch today and ate about half of it, and so far I am still alive. But I'm debating as to whether or not to eat it all or save the rest as potential evidence.

Glad you lived to tell the tale, sweetie. :)
Since the box was closed and you looked it over, it must be alright. Free stuff is good stuff. The guy was just helping out himself and you at the same time.
Sometimes it is hard to tell when you should throw things out; however, I guess that we have to trust somebody sometime. On the other hand sometimes, in today's world, we need to be cautious.
I bet they're safe 'cause, as you said, you didn't get to know the guy very well... why would he go to all that trouble, not to mention setting up the "coincidental meeting" in the hallway, to potentially poison two people he hardly knows?!
I'm sure you'll be fine... but if I don't see a post in a few days, I'm going to have to email Frema and ask her to confirm or deny your continued existence.
Looks good to me..besides if you DO croke it could be traced to the dude.....you do know his name don't you? Never less..... the apartment people know his name and new address. CSI working here!!!!
Aunt Ruthie
anything I don't have to cook is bound to be good.
Yep. Looks good to me! Although having worked in an elementary school and being the beneficiary of countless birthday treats...I admit that I err on the side of caution these days. Glad you are still with us!
Free food in any case is a nice gesture, but is always to be cautioned. There's this mysterious Arabic woman who leaves plates of food on my in-laws front porch. What's more is we've actually caught her just hanging out, sitting on the stairs with her food. The one time she stayed there even when we got out of our car to pass her, to get inside the house. We politely asked her to leave, thanking her for the food, but not accepting it. Even if we hurt her feelings a little, at least she didn't waste her food anymore. We haven't seen her in a while...
